All pregnant women love to read about birth and labor stories. I know when I’m pregnant I do, and especially when I was pregnant the first time. I devoured stories from other women in magazines, books and on websites.
It truly helps to read about other childbirth stories, because you may find yourself in a similar situation. Even if it’s an account you don’t think you’ll have to go through. For example, you might only
want to read about natural childbirth, but don’t discount those about cesareans or those who chose to have pain medication during labor.
I was like that with my second pregnancy. I was going to go all natural, even took Bradley Childbirth classes. I was only interested in reading about natural childbirth. You couldn’t convince me otherwise. So that’s all I read. Imagine my surprise when I found out at 30 weeks that I had a breech baby, who was sitting on her feet. I was told that unless she turned it would be best and safest if I had a cesarean. I had to scramble to find information about cesareans – something I never thought I’d need. After all my first pregnancy was a vaginal delivery.
Needless to say – that last minute scrambling paid off. I read what I could about cesareans and other women’s accounts on cesarean delivery and I was better prepared to go that route. My second baby was delivered via cesarean. She never moved from her upright position.
I’m here to say that each pregnancy, each labor and childbirth is different and unique. Be open minded as you approach your day. Read all you can to prepare for the day.
