Morning Sickness

Morning sickness, also called hyperemesis gravidarum in severe cases, is when nausea and vomiting happens during pregnancy on a regular basis. The name “morning sickness” was derived because in a large percentage of pregnant women, it hits in the morning. But in reality, “morning sickness” can strike at any time.

The causes of morning sickness are probably caused from the hormonal changes which occur during pregnancy. Typically morning sickness will go away after the first trimester.

To combat morning sickness, ironically, it’s best to keep a little food in the stomach. Eating smaller meals helps, rather than three large meals. This way your digestive system can handle digesting smaller amounts of food and perhaps the nausea and vomiting will be kept at bay. Keep saltine crackers handy especially if you suffer from actual “morning” sickness, and eat a cracker or two before getting out of bed.

Sucking on peppermint candy helps to settle the tummy. Also taking a vitamin B6

supplement daily (25 mg to 50 mg) helps to alleviate the nausea. Always clear it with your healthcare provider before taking any new supplement. One thing that helped me was using a 100% natural progesterone cream daily with the vitamin B6 and the peppermint candies. I used these three with my fourth pregnancy and kept the morning sickness tamed.
