Making plans for the arrival of your baby includes some very important newborn decisions. There are several things you need to decide about your newborn well before their grand entrance into the world. This list will help you with some of the decisions.
Baby’s Doctor
It’s important to have decided who you wish to be your baby’s physician. If you have one in mind, that’s great. If not, ask friends who they recommend. You can even interview potential doctors before making this decision. When you register at the hospital you will have to name your baby’s doctor, so they can be contacted when you give birth.
Eye Drops
If you deliver at a hospital, it’s traditional for the nurse to administer eye drops (usually an antibiotic drop called Erythromycin) into the baby’s eyes just after the birth to prevent certain infections. This is not mandatory, but is advisable. Discuss the administering ofthe eye drops with your baby’s doctor if you have a problem with this.
Cutting of the cord
Discuss with your doctor or midwife ahead of time when you want the cord cut from the placenta, and who will cut it. Unless there is an emergency like the cord around the neck, it is okay to allow the cord to quit pulsating before cutting it. Many hospitals, however, will cut the cord the moment the baby emerges.
Important! Remember that before you can leave the hospital you must have a good infant car seat in the vehicle. Most states have a law that says the baby cannot leave the hospital without one. Take the guesswork out of deciding which one is best and chose the BRITAX ADVOCATE 70 CS Convertible Car Seat.
